What Vacation Can You Plan this Summer?

Updated: Jul 4, 2021

Summer is right around the corner, and many people who held off making vacation plans earlier in the year find they are now ready to travel.

The question we're hearing most frequently is, "What vacation can I plan this summer?

A surprising 90 countries are open to US travelers right now, and more will follow as the world gradually reopens. So while faraway destinations are possible, there are also options closer to home.

If you are in the category of folks who are itching to travel this summer, here are a few destinations to consider:

In the US:

Hawaii

Hawaii is a popular option for 2021. The exotic beauty of the islands gives travelers the feel of an international journey without leaving the US.

There are six major islands to explore in Hawaii, each with unique attractions, experiences, and personality, from bustling Oahu to peaceful Lanai.

While all travelers to the state must have a negative Covid-19 test result within 72 hours of departure, no testing is needed to re-enter the Continental US. This eliminates the risk of in-destination quarantine.

Alaska

Did you know that Alaska is open for land travel this summer? Large ocean cruise lines cannot sail to Alaska this year, so it's an ideal time to avoid crowds and enjoy authentic experiences.

From majestic glaciers to nearly uncharted National Parks, Alaska is full of spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and rich First Nations culture.

Travelers to the state are encouraged to test before departure and seek a second test five to fourteen days after arrival.

National Parks

The US National Parks topped the list of destinations for US travelers in 2020. Because the wide-open spaces allow plenty of room for social distancing, these 63 treasured sites rose to the top of many bucket lists last year.

Crowds can be a factor at the National Parks, but the lack of foreign tourists helps keep the numbers down. For fewer crowds, consider a lesser-known hidden gem like Crater Lake National Forest in Oregon, Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado, or Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota.

Montana

If you're longing for beautiful natural settings, consider Montana, where you can visit both Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. With 97 mountain ranges and 3,000 pristine lakes, there's ample opportunity to spot wildlife like antelope, moose, bighorn sheep, and grizzly bears.

Montana's native lands offer glimpses into the history of the area's indigenous tribes. The state also has a fascinating ranch culture and a history of mining, exploration, and Wild West to explore.

There are eight airports in the state, so it's an accessible destination with plenty of charming small towns to visit during your travels.

Outside of the US:

Mexico

Mexico reopened in June of 2020 with successful safety protocols implemented by our trusted resort and hotel partners.

Along with gorgeous boutique resorts and magnificent beaches, you'll also enjoy excellent cuisine and cultural sites ranging from contemporary to ancient.

Mexico does not require travelers to provide a negative PCR test or quarantine upon arrival, but most resorts ask guests to complete health questionnaires and follow safety protocols.

All air passengers to the US must present a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of boarding their flight. Many resorts began offering on-site testing either as a perk or for a fee, depending on the property. This allows guests to comply with the rule easily.

The Caribbean

Most of the Caribbean is open to US tourists, and there are so many spectacular islands to explore. Whether you long for activity and adventure or relaxing on white sandy beaches, there is a perfect island getaway for everyone.

Each island has established a set of protocols for travelers. And before returning to the US, air passengers must present a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of their flight. Similar to their counterparts in Mexico, many resorts and hotels now offer on-site testing for their guests.

Cruises

Cruise enthusiasts received welcome news recently. Royal Caribbean announced it will return to sailing in June, with 7-night roundtrips from the Bahamas. Celebrity Cruises will offer 7-night roundtrips from St. Maarten from June through August, and Crystal Cruises will begin sailing in July with a 100% Bahamian itinerary.

Cruises will operate with a fully-vaccinated crew, and passengers will need to be fully vaccinated at least two weeks before departure as well.
