If you are sending your child to study abroad, you expect them to benefit from the experience in countless ways: a developing sense of independence, exposure to other cultures, and the opportunity to travel broadly. But there's one notable benefit just for parents: it's the perfect excuse to take a vacation! When planned well, visiting your child abroad is a fantastic way to connect in their adopted country, make memories traveling together, and possibly see some sights on your own.
There's a bit of an art to designing a travel plan for study abroad families, as university commitments must balance with the family's schedule, vacation window, and travel goals. I will work with you to accommodate all these factors and develop a seamlessly-planned itinerary based on your interests and preferences.
Here is how we design your Study Abroad Family Trip

Once your child is accepted into their program of choice, schedule your complimentary, 20-minute consultation call with me. Let's begin as soon as possible to secure the best flights, accommodations, and pricing. We'll talk about your student's program and schedule, and I will want to learn about your interests, goals for the trip, and travel style. I'll share a bit about the design process, my planning fee, and what you can expect from a Grand Journeys Travel experience. To get started, I will email you my services agreement form and planning fee invoice. Once you return those, we can begin planning your Grand Journey.

During this stage, I will research and craft itinerary options based upon the timing and length of your trip. Some families travel together before the start of term and help their student get settled. Others meet up at the end of term to begin their journey. Another option is to visit during the middle of term, let your student play host in their adopted city, and continue your travels from there. Factors you may want to consider: climate, seasonal trends in your destination that affect pricing and availability, and your schedule at home. We will refine your itinerary together until it reflects your vision for the trip. Once finalized, I'll begin booking all the components of your journey. Flights, accommodations, transfers, and unique experiences: I'll handle all the details.

I'll provide you with your travel documents and confirmations. Before you depart, we'll schedule a phone consultation to walk through your itinerary and answer your questions. You'll have access to all of your travel documents on a digital app that you can access anytime during your trip.

Departure! Embark on your grand journey, connect with your child, and be assured that all your preparations are in order. Your only order of business is to enjoy the trip. While you travel, I'll be here to assist you if anything unexpected arises. When you return, I look forward to hearing all about your trip!
